Privacy Policy

Draft, September 2026

Thaw is a private app. This policy explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, and the control you have over it.

The short version

  • We only collect what we need to give you advice.
  • What you write is sent to our AI provider to generate replies. It is not used to train their models.
  • We never contact your partner, and we never sell your data or use it for advertising.
  • You can delete everything from inside the app at any time.

Who we are

Thaw is provided by Company name, a company registered in England and Wales (company number number), whose registered address is registered address. We are the controller of your personal data and are registered with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (registration number ICO number).

What we collect

  • What you tell us when you set up: your first name, her first name, whether she's your wife or girlfriend, how long you've been together, where things stand, and what you've described about your relationship.
  • Your check-ins and Thaw’s replies, the moments you log, and the summary Thaw builds of what it has learned.
  • Subscription status from Apple or Google, such as whether you're in a free trial. We never receive your card details.
  • Basic technical information, such as app version, device type and crash reports, to keep the app working.

Your app lock PIN is stored only on your phone, in its secure storage. Face ID and fingerprint unlock are handled entirely by your phone. We never receive your biometric data.

Sensitive information

Check-ins can include very personal details, such as your sex life, your health or your partner's. The law treats this as special category data. We only process it with your explicit consent, which you give when you set up Thaw.

You can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your data in the app. Because Thaw can't work without processing what you write, withdrawing consent means we'll stop providing the service to you.

Information about your partner

Using Thaw means sharing information about someone who hasn't signed up. We take that seriously.

  • We use it only to give you advice. We never contact her and never use it for any other purpose.
  • Please share only what you need to get help, and avoid details that could identify her beyond her first name.
  • If you believe your information has been shared in Thaw, you can contact us at privacy@thawformen.com and we'll respond in line with your legal rights.

How we use your information

  • To provide Thaw: generating replies, remembering context, and showing your moments and insights.
  • To manage your subscription and free trial.
  • To keep Thaw secure and working, and to fix problems.
  • To improve Thaw, using only aggregated or de-identified information. We never read your check-ins for this.
  • To meet legal obligations.

Our legal bases

  • Contract: to provide the service you've signed up for.
  • Explicit consent: for sensitive information in your check-ins.
  • Legitimate interests: for security, preventing misuse, and improving Thaw with de-identified data.
  • Legal obligation: where the law requires us to keep or share information.

How the AI works

When you check in, your message and relevant context are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate a reply. Their commercial terms don't allow them to use this data to train their models.

Thaw's replies are suggestions only. The AI can be wrong, and it only ever hears your side. Thaw doesn't make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

Who we share information with

We use a small number of trusted providers who process data only on our instructions:

  • Anthropic PBC (United States), for AI replies.
  • Hosting provider, to store your account data securely.
  • Apple and Google, who handle payments and subscriptions.
  • Subscription management provider, e.g. RevenueCat, to track subscription status.

We don't sell your data, and we never share your check-ins with advertisers. We'll only share information with authorities if the law requires it.

International transfers

Some providers are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where data leaves the UK, we use legal safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, to protect it.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete it in the app, we remove it from our systems within 30 days, and from backups within 90 days. Apple and Google keep their own purchase records under their policies.

Keeping it secure

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is tightly restricted, and the app locks with a PIN or Face ID. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete or move your data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw consent. You can delete everything in the app, or email us to exercise any other right. We'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

If you're in the United States

We don't sell or share personal information for targeted advertising. Depending on your state, you may have rights to know, access, correct or delete your information. Email us to use them. We won't treat you differently for doing so.

Age

Thaw is only for adults aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

Our website

thawformen.com uses only essential cookies needed for the site to work. If we add analytics, we'll ask for your consent first.

Changes to this policy

If we make important changes, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect.
